Called to Love and Serve ~ a documentary on the Diaconate in the Episcopal Church.
Five students from The School for Deacons in Berkeley, CA went to General Convention 2006 as “Team Dalmatic,” representing the school’s modest newsletter. With video camera in hand they conducted short interviews with many bishops, priests, deacons, and lay folk, asking for their understanding of the diaconate in today’s church. Later they filmed deacons in action and conducted further interviews. The resulting 27 minute film, in a brief time, gives us a rich picture of deacons and their roles in the church and world. There is also a segment showing the ordination of a deacon. This film will be useful for discernment committees and diaconal formation programs. It is very effective as the centerpiece of a congregation program to stimulate conversation about the diaconate and the diakonia of all.
The film, on DVD, is available from The School for Deacons for $15 plus shipping and handling. Any proceeds beyond covering the costs of the film will support the work of the school. Use the form below to order your copy.
