“As a deacon in the Church, you are to study the Holy Scriptures, to seek nourishment from them, and to model your life upon them. You are to make Christ and his redemptive love known, by your word and example, to those among whom you live, and work, and worship. You are to interpret to the Church the needs, concerns, and hopes of the world. You are to assist the bishop and priests in public worship and in the ministration of God’s Word and Sacraments, and you are to carry out other duties assigned to you from time to time. At all times, your life and teaching are to show Christ’s people that in serving the helpless they are serving Christ himself. “

Donate to the School for Deacons

The School for Deacons is training and preparing deacons not just for service to the church, but to the world. Deacons work with people in need, with those on the margins, for the voiceless and the needy. Most deacons are not compensated for the work they do. Instead, this is a calling from God to be a servant leader in ministry.

The Episcopal Diocese of California has revised the School for Deacons to be more affordable, flexible, and shorter as a training program for those who are called by God to be on the front lines serving others as deacons.

Lowered tuition for students as well as the flexibility of hybrid classes that are both in person and online are great for attracting those who may not have had as much weekend time or the money that the old system required. However, this lowered tuition cost does not mean that the costs of the school have lowered.

Please consider giving to support the formation and training of deacons for the future. All gifts are appreciated!
